Pearson, Lloyd & Dayton have a whale of an Oldtimer

Oldtimer GP: Nürburgring

Gary Pearson was one of the stars of the 30th Anniversary Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in August, claiming a Group C double. The JD Classics Jaguar XJR-11 driver needed all his skill and experience to claim the laurels.

Having missed his grid slot, Gary had to start from the tail of the grid, but he swept into the lead after just 10 of the 40 minutes. He then romped home a minute clear of the rest, before completing his domination in the sprint race on Sunday.

Allen Lloyd’s Spice SE90C led the chase of Pearson in both races. The car was shared by its owner and Gerry Wainwright on Saturday and raced solo by the latter on Sunday. That was just part of a remarkable weekend for Lloyd, who triumphed in no fewer than four races.

Allen proved unstoppable in the European Sports-Prototype races aboard his Lola T70, while he added another win in his Ford GT40 in the FIA Historic GTs. To complete his dream weekend, Lloyd beat Duncan Dayton to Formula Junior spoils in a battle of the Lotus 27s.

Dayton also had a good weekend, taking wins aboard his BT33 and BT35 Brabhams and Lotus 16.

The Lotus Elan shared by Tommy Brorsson and Freddy Kottulinsky won the Historic Marathon on the 14-mile Nordschleife circuit.
