Surtees resurfaces

The Surtees TS9 which Rhodesian John Love raced in South African Formula One events in 1971-2 under the Team Gunston banner returned to the tracks at Donington on September 2/3 in ‘works’ Brooke Bond Oxo Team Surtees livery. Driver Frank Lyons enjoyed a frantic dice for third place in The Force’s Classic Grand Prix event with John Bladon in the evolution Surtees TS9B-5. But despite Lyons’ efforts the latter, in which Mike Hailwood finished second in the 1972 Italian GP (see Motor Sport, September 2000), finally prevailed. Both cars were restored by Terry von der Zee in Dorset.
