VSCC Prescott

Heavy rain in the afternoon did its best to alter the garden party atmosphere of the VSCC’s Prescott hilIclimb in August — but to no avail. A large attendance of spectators and 259 entrants made the best of things and the event went off well. To save time more than one car was dispatched on the same run, whistle and red flag stopping the second one if any untoward incident occurred to the car ahead. It happens in F1 racing, anyway, but might be unfortunate for a driver who has just made the sort of start he or she would never repeat. But there were few incidents, although a 1913 Ford Special hit a bank and, after turning round to descend the hill, did it again when the steering failed. The Parker GN had an incident, and sadly the 1 1/2-litre 1924 Bucciali of Angela Hucke non-started.

RD was made by Terence Watson’s 1936 s/c 1 1/2-litre sports Riley (44.05sec), best vintage time was 47.72 by Geraint Owen’s 1930 6-litre DH Riley. Best Edwardian was the 1908 12-litre GP Panhard conducted by Mark Walker (53.92sec) but David Baker’s 1917 10-litre Schneider ‘aerocar’ was 4.05sec quicker.
