Brian Lister helps bring ENB Le Mans 'Knobbly' back to Britain

The Equipe National Beige Lister-Jaguar which was raced at le Mans in 1958 by Freddy Rouselle and Claude Dubois has returned to Britain after long periods in France and Switzerland, with the considerable help of its constructor Brian Lister.

Chassis BHL 105 was campaigned in ENB’s yellow colours until 1959, when it was crashed in the Helsinki Grand Prix. It was returned to the Lister factory, wound down since the death of Archie ScottBrown, but repaired elsewhere.

Scottish hillclimber Ray Fielding acquired the car, before selling it to Ken Wilson, who campaigned it for several seasons — including at the Brighton Speed Trials in 1964— and ran it on the road with the registration 948 NNY.

Maurice Porker, Godfrey Cory-Wright and Anthony Crossingham owned it before John Harper sold it to fellow racers Philippe and Jean-Francois Renault. It went to Switzerland in 1986.

This lister retains its original ‘Knobbly’ body, its more pronounced curves in contrast with many which have been repanelled. “It is a car of great historical significance, and I’m so pleased it has returned to these shores,” said Lister. Now under preparation at Lynx Motors for its new owner, it is to be campaigned in selected events next season.
