ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

The Williams-Honda FW11s of Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell dominated the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on September 7th, Piquet heading his English team-mate across the line to score the marques eighth win out of 13 races run so far this season. Meticulous preparation and attention to detail have been the cornerstones of the team’s spectacular success; below, mechanics can be seen checking over the twocars prior to the start. The madly enthusiastic tifosi will scale the highest tree to obtain the best Monza vantage point (far right), but local hero Ivan Capelli (centre right) had a disappointing maiden outing in the new AGS. Left, Alessandro Nannini succumbed to engine trouble in his Minardi, although less spectacularly than Johansson’s major practice flame-out with the Ferrari F186 (below).
