“Shockers al Indianapolis”
Can we add a little to your article on shock absorbers with reference to Andre HartfOrd, which will be of interest to your Vintage Postbag readers. Andre Hart fOrd was at some time “swallowed” up into a small corner of the WoodlicadMonroe Empire where it was moved around from place to place getting .smaller at ever,’ place of repose. This process went cm gradually from the 30’s till Inc populat a,ceptance of coil sprit, and
Macpherson struts whereupon the AH business was almost non-existent. It is probably true to say that AH type of shock absorbers were old fashioned, from a design point of view, in the late 20’s but still had a good reliable record and were still firm favouri ICS with enthusiasts as they were (and still are) adjustable. It is understandable that Andre Hartford was placed in the back seat of the growing Woodhead-Monroe Empire and really they must be congratulated for not losing too many tools over the many years and moves.
When I became involved in Andre Hartford the tools and equipment were complete but scattered from Welwyn Garden City to Aberdeen via Sheffield. They are now all at our factory at Telford and we have been quietly keeping your readers’ tyres in contact with the road surface for nine years now. Continued on page 1245 V./
