JOOSEN led the race in the early laps in his Italia entered BMW 635 CSi, but by lap six was suffering from brake trouble, allowing Werginz to take the lead. Muir led the Group 1 cars, in eleventh place overall, during the earlier stages of the race, but succumbed to the Woodman/Buncombe Capri which eventually won the Group 1 section, finishing in eighth place overall. Kelleners and Mueller were third with their 320 BMW, but the Unipart Rover of Allam and Needell which had put up some excellent times in practice lost all chances when an impromptu pit stop was required to replace a drive belt.
