And Another Rusting Alfasud

Sir

I was most interested to read Mr. Chapman’s letter in your September 1977 issue and his comments on the contrast between the Alfasud’s driving qualities and its bodywork, which parallel our own experience.

We purchased our Alfasud in June 1974 and had problems virtually from the start with leaking windscreen, rear window and boot but particularly with rust. Despite two attempts at rectification, the state of the bodywork is now worse than ever and would be a disgrace to any make of car, let alone an Alfa Romeo. Every part of the body is now affected by rust which in one place is so far advanced that the metal is corroded entirely through.

We hope that the Alfa Romeo organisation will, albeit belatedly, begin to take seriously the complaints of those, like ourselves, who fondly believed that the Alfa Romeo name was an assurance of quality. Meanwhile, we certainly endorse Mr. Chapman’s words of caution to would-be Alfasud buyers.
