The Ferrari Team made a return to Grand Prix racing at Osterreichring with a single, revised chassis. Arturo Merzario (above) was at the wheel and he held fourth place in the opening stages and finally finished seventh. Brazil’s Carlos Pace took his place on the victory rostrum for the first time, having driven to third place in his Surtees TS14. On the left, Pace is seen with race winner Peterson with his trophy, while he is pictured in action below.

EMERSON FITTIPALDI’S World Championship chances virtually ended when his JPS-Lotus stopped with a disconnected fuel line (above), letting Ronnie Peterson through to win. In the early stages Peterson led the race, strongly challenged by Hulme’s IVIcLaren M23 (right). Below, Merzario (Ferrari) leads Stewart (Tyrrell), Reutemann (Brabham), Pace (Surtees), Hunt (March), Covert (Tyrrell) and Beltoise (BRM), with part of the huge crowd looking on.
