THE FUTURE OF M.o.T. TESTS

My Mini was tested—allegedly—for its M.o.T. test at 4.45 p.m. on Tuesday 27th June. It was passed. On Friday 30th June at 7.30 p.m. (approx. 74-1 hours later) the rear chassis subframe cracked on the nearside at its lower point beneath the rubber spring. If I had not been going slowly to turn a corner the four of us in it could well have been killed had the wheel jammed in its arch and the vehicle spun and rolled.

To date the garage refuse to accept any responsibility for the 15s. they Obtained from me. They claim the test was properly carried out yet they missed—with expert eyes, professional knowledge and lifts better than any of us can afford at home—a badly corroded section. Isn’t it time garages either accepted some responsibility when they pass vehicles or had the guts or courage to stop being testing stati(sns?

Perhaps so—but think of all those lovely 15s. pouring in for so little work and no responsibility.
