REWARD FOR BRAVERY
A motorist who chased a man who had attacked a girl appeared in Court at Leeds to give evidence, which resulted in the assailant being sent to prison. Ile was praised for bravery. Before going into Court he parked in a Two-Hour Waiting zone and told the duty policeman where his car was, which they said was in order. Unable to move his car after the two hours had expired because he was likely to be called as a witness at any moment, this car-owner, awarded the B.E.M. for naval action during the war, was later apprehended on a parking charge. No amount of explanation to warden or Magistrates was any good—he was fined L’,8 and Li costs. Motorists, apparently, are the arch-criminals.
