The millionth Ford Cortina

Almost four years after the first Ford Cortina left the Dagenham production line the 1,000,000th one was completed. No other car made in Britain has sold so prolifically in this span of time and no other has earned £250,000,000 in foreign currency. In 1965 the Cortina outsold any other two British Cars in export markets and it is maintaining its edge in the International sides field. From its unpromising start its 1,200-c.c. form the Cortina quickly emerged into this enviable position by reason of larger engines and “GT” modifications, and proceeded to dominate rallies and saloon-car racing. If Ford of Britain decide to drop the Cortina range the cars that succeed it will have to be very good indeed to maintain the popular Cortina’s reputation and sales figures.
