Prices asked for old cars are invariably absurdly high. Consequently we are pleased to learn, from the daily Press, that when ” two London top dealers ” were called-in to value Lord Montgomery’s 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III special saloon, with forward-sloping windscreen, they valued it at £500. This valuation was made to enable the War Office to know what to charge Lord Montgomery for the car, which he asked to be allowed to purchase when he retired. Now this is an historic version of a very fine car, with an unusual body, and unquestionably would be maintained in 100 per cent. condition. If it is valued by experts as worth £500, other Rolls-Royce cars of this age or earlier are surely worth not a penny more ?
