* MAYFLOWER CRUSADE Sir,

Sir,

It will be a sad day for us both when a car owner no longer bothers to defend his choice which thought prompts me to query your contributor’s figures for the Mayflower’s miles per gallon. He quotes 27.5 m.p.g. which brings the car near the Vanguard’s figures. My 1951 model (25,000 miles) has done the last 9,000 miles on National Benzole at 33.1 m.p.g. and this includes four very fast long-distance runs with full weight.

My figure would bring your order to Volkswagen, Ford Prefect. Mayflower. I often think the latter is a much under-estimated car and feel we could take on most things over a hundred miles on our own conditions, i.e., carrying one passenger, ten suitcases, and five gallons in the tank ! I am, Yours, etc.,
