“Spitfire,” by John W. R. Taylor and Maurice F. Allward. (The Harborough Publishing Company, Ltd., price 15s.)

This book gives as much as anyone will ever need to know about the Supermarine “Spitfire” range of fighter aircraft. The story opens with the exploits of the Supermarine “Sea Lion” in the Schneider Trophy race at Naples in 1922 and continues to the day of the Battle of Britain Anniversary. The book’s 117 large pages are illustrated lavishly with masses of excellent photographs, although many of these are old friends. The quality of the paper is definitely prewar. Unfortunately, this book glorifies war. With a subject like the “Spitfire” it cannot very well do otherwise.
