140 m.p.h. on 750 c.c. A remarkable M.G. achievement

Bobby Kohlrausch, the German driver who has thrilled English enthusiasts at Shelsley, established some very remarkable records on October 10th, driving his M.G. ” Magic Midget” on the Frankfort on Main—Darmstadt State Motoring Road. The runs were timed by the D.D.A.C., approved National Club, and the results have been submitted to the A.J.A.R.C. The little M.G. covered the kilometre at 140.51 m.p.h., and the mile at 140.6 m.p.h., also capturing the standing kilometre record at 133.1 k.p.h. These represent new International Class H records, the previous records having been established by Kohlrausch with the same M.G. at Gyou, Hungary in May, 1935

‘Me engine has since been made to give even more power and very careful attention has been paid to the aerodynamics of the bodywork.

The M.G. is a single-seater with lines like those of the well-known Magic

Magnate. The whole of the bonnet hinges forward to disclose the engine. A scoop behind the nose cowling directs the flow of air on to the radiator and beneath this scoop lies the supercharger, drawing from an S.U. carburetter on the near side and feeding to the engine from the off side. The induction pipe is mildly ribbed and carries a blow-off valve on its upper face. Ignition is by magneto. No front brakes are fitted. Kohlrausch pays a tribute to the help and kindness afforded him by Mr. Cecil Kindier during preparations. for the record attempts.

Incidentally, German efficiency was indicated by the presence in this office of details of the new records, accompanied by a personal letter from Kohlrausch and nine excellent photograi)lis, on Monday morning,. October 12th.
