Several New Enfields.

The Enfield Cycle Co. Ltd., of Redditch has added several new models to its already comprehensive range and it may well be said that there is now an Enfield to suit every purpose. The new machines include a 21 h.p, four-stroke, a sports” 350″ and a redesigned 9.76 h.p. sporting machine. The latter will doubtless appeal to a large number of riders who appreciate the joys of a” big-twin” but have hitherto been unable to enjoy them on account of the high initial cost. Its price is £70 only—a sum which is asked for many machines of but half the horse-power. It is fitted with an Enfield four-speed gear-box with gate change control in a forward position on the petrol tank. The latter is of the saddle type, handsomely finished in the usual two shade t of green. The silencing system is very attractive, two large silencers lying one above the other on the off-side of the machine. With a polished aluminium sports sidecar this model is sold at £86 and, either solo or as a combination, it has a most attractive appearance. The bore and stroke are 85.5 x

85 mm. and the engine is of the side-valve type, as in the past. Mechanical lubrication is used.

Of the smaller machines, the new sports overhead 3.46 h.p. machine is particularly interesting. The frame of this gives a very low position in that the top tube is in a straight line with the back forks, the former being neatly covered by a saddle tank. Specially strong valve springs, a large carburetter and a high compression piston are fitted to this engine, so that the machine is capable of over 70 miles per hour without difficulty.

It might be thought that the new 2.25 h.p. four-stroke machine was intended to replace the two-stroke of similar power, but actually two new two-strokes have been added to the range, so that there are now five in all. The three models which embody a two-speed gear cost £31, whilst the new three-speeds with detachable aluminium cylinder heads, cost £33 10s. The four-stroke is listed at £37 10s. and the specification includes a side-valve engine, three-speed gear-box with gate change control, separate oil-tank, spring seat saddle and 27 x 2.75 in. Dunlop tyres.
