On his return from Indianopolis, B. A. D. Eldridge brought with him a two-litre straight-eight miller racing car, a special crankshaft to transform the engine to a 1500 c.c. model. With the American type of narrow single-seater body Eldridge broke three short-distance class records at Montlhery recently. Five kilometres were covered in 29 5-100s average 125 m.p.h. 59 as compared with the previous record of lm. 56 70-100s’ set up by Staniland on a Bugatti. The five mile record for this class was lowered from 2m. 38 58-100s to 2m. 27 7-100s Elddridge making a speed of 122.38 m.p.h. His time for 10 kilometre being 3m. 4.87-100s or 121 m.p.h. compared with 3m. 59.70-100s.
According to” The Motor Trader” another American car on European lines is promised. It will have a Knight sleeve valve engine and “the speed ability of the European Knight motor cars is incorporated in the new product.”
