A sport carries on without its talisman: almost 50 days after a serious accident at Goodwood ended his top-line career, a recuperating Stirling Moss followed the action via a TV in his room at Atkinson Morley Hospital, Wimbledon. On June 11, 1962 there were two Formula 1 races in the UK, one at Crystal Palace and the other at Mallory Park – the only time the Leicestershire track ever hosted a race for grand prix racing’s cream.
