Chinook lands at last
The Chinook Mk2 Can-Am car returned to racing this summer nearly 40 years after its last race in Canada. The McLaren M1 clone was acquired by Jay Esterer in 1981; he finally raced the 5.7-litre Chevrolet-engined car for the first time at the Oulton Park Gold Cup. “I converted it to a street car with a closed body,” said Esterer. “I used it around Alberta, but then decided what I’d done was hideous.” Damaged in a fire in 1995, it was rebuilt by Chinook specialist Anthony Taylor.
