Nissan could become the next manufacturer to join the DTM.

The Japanese brand has admitted to having talks with the DTM-organising ITR body. However, it stressed that it had made no decisions about its long-term motor sport future.

Nissan vice-president Carlos Tavares said: “The DTM is interesting for many reasons, one of which is its success in terms of spectator attendances.”

Tavares said Nissan’s short-term priorities remained the FIA GT1 World Championship and the Japanese Super GT Series. But he stressed that in future it was important the company could race one car in multiple markets.

His comments mirror those of BMW, which wants to race its 2012 DTM car in other series as a condition of entry.
