Track run for Peugeot hybrid
Peugeot has unveiled a diesel-electric hybrid that offers a clue to its future plans in sports cars. The hybrid version of its turbo-diesel LMP1 coupé, the 908HY, was demonstrated at the Silverstone Le Mans Series finale in September, but Peugeot stressed that it has no plans to switch to this car for the 2009 season. The 908HY was described as a demonstrator that will be used for test and development work through next year.
The technology is more likely to be used in competition when Le Mans switches to smaller capacity engines in 2011 [see above], said Peugeot Sport boss Michel Barge. “If there is a downsizing in terms of capacity, then this technology would be good to go with that,” he said
