Stretton scare
Historic racer Martin Stretton had a fortunate escape from a major accident during the RAC TT Celebration race at Goodwood. Despite a high-speed impact with the tyre wall for the Iso Bizzarini, Stretton suffered nothing worse than a broken forearm.
Stretton had just taken over the car from Barrie Williams when the car plunged off the road at Madgwick. “I went up the inside of a car I wanted to get by, got slightly blindsided and arrived at the corner too quick and off line,” said Stretton.
The race was halted as he was cut free of the wreckage. “It was basically a small mistake with a colossal accident,” he said.
The injury will keep him out of racing for the bulk of the European season, but Stretton has targeted a return at Estoril at the end of November. He will miss the final two rounds of the European Formula 2 series, but seems already to have accumulated enough points in his March 712 to secure the title.
