Tom Delaney 1911-2006

The oldest active racing driver in Britain and possibly the world passed away in early September. Aged 95, C T (Tom) Delaney raced as recently as April 2006 in the Lea-Francis Hyper which he first raced at Brooklands in 1930. Born in 1911, Delaney raced his faithful car over a 76-year period and remained an enthusiastic competitor with the VSCC and at other events. He was granted a ‘lifetime achievement award’ in 2005 by the MSA in recognition of his career. WB’s appreciation will appear next month.

Creighton Brown 1938-2006

Creighton Brown, the co-founder of McLaren International, has passed away at the age of 68 following a brief battle with cancer.

One of motorsport’s true gentlemen, Brown was a seasoned racer in the 1970s, notably winning championships in Clubmans cars. His association with Arthur Mallock led to the creation of Ardmore Racing to field F2 cars for Ray Mallock. Indirectly, that led to his role at McLaren in partnership with Ron Dennis; Brown later set up McLaren Cars to produce the F1 supercar.
