Racers that are going, going, gone…

Bonhams’ Important Sports and Competition Motor Cars sale at the Goodwood Revival on September 16 saw mixed results.  The 1929 Monaco Grand Prix-winning Bugatti Type 35B was withdrawn after failing to reach its reserve, although a 1935 Type 56/508 GP car reached an impressive £815,000. The 1960/61 Emeryson-Climax F1 car failed to sell as did the unraced 1985 Jaguar XJR-5 IMSA sports-prototype and the 1963 Lightweight E-type.  The 1961 Sunbeam Harrington Alpine, Le Mans Index of Thermal Efficiency winner featured in last month’s Motor Sport, was sold for £54,300 (including buyer’s premium), while the Chris Lawrence Deep Sanderson 301 made £34,500.
