Another day, another Ferrari book. That’s the immediate and entirely natural reaction, but this isn’t just another exercise in vanity publishing. American David Bull has become renowned for the clarity of his output and, though for the greater part a picture-and-captions hardback, there’s real substance to the text as you would expect from the author. But, ultimately, it’s the imahes that draw you in.

In many similar works, pictures are cropped too tightly so you miss out on what’s happening in the background (which can be just as enlightening as what’s occurring in the foreground). Not the case here. Glorious period colour mingles with crisp black-and-white photographs of some of the most beautiful sports-racers ever made. RH
