Vanwall aces at Aintree

Up to 150 period racing cars will be in action at Aintree during its Festival of Motorsport on Friday November 19. They will be demonstrated at speed on the Liverpool track’s original Grand Prix circuit.

Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks and Roy Salvadori will lead the way, driving suitable period cars. Phil Hill has also been invited.

Negotiations with the Donington Grand Prix Collection may result in the presence of a Vanwall to commemorate the 1957 British Grand Prix victory at Aintree by Moss and Brooks.

The on-track action will start on Friday at 11.00 and run through until 16.00. The Saturday and Sunday demonstrations will run from 9.00 until noon, when the venue will be turned over to horse racing.

The TOPS club is involved in putting together as many as 40 racing cars from the 1950s and ’60s. Among them are Tony Bianchi’s Talbot-Lago, two Maserati 250Fs, at least one ERA, several Connaughts and a BRM P25. There will also be a gaggle of Jaguar C- and D-types, including the D in which Duncan Hamilton won the first-ever race at Aintree in 1954.
