Four drivers will go into the final round of the FIA Cup for Thoroughbred Grand Prix Cars at Estoril still in with a chance of the overall title. With a 33-car entry at the Portuguese track, it should be a fine conclusion to the TGP season.

The race, a headline feature of the Historic Festival over the weekend of 25/26 October, is the eighth and final round of the year.

Currently, Fredy Kumschick has 52 points, two more than British racers Mike Whatley and Mike Wrigley, while Joaquin Folch has 46. Any one of this quartet could claim the overall honours.

Kumschick’s Williams FW07C faces difficult opposition in Class C, and with an extra point for pole, Folch’s customary qualifying pace could be a significant factor. Defending champion Whatley is likely to dominate Class B in his Ensign N175, while Wrigley’s Tyrrell 012 is the prime force in Class D.

However, Kumschick knows that a victory will guarantee him the title that he lost to Whatley at the final race of 2002.

TGP newcomers for Estoril include John Delane in Tyrrell 001 and F2 regular Peter Wunsch in the ex-Carlos Reutemann Brabham BT37.
