A personal memory of ‘Wilkie’ who died ‘Wilkie’ Wilkinson, who died recently. As he returned to the Paddock at Shelsley Walsh I said to him “You are in trouble!” “Why?” “You have just made a better time than the Guv’nor.” I was referring to Kenneth Evans, of the Bellevue Garage team, whose racing cars ‘Wilkie’ looked after. No animosity of course, I was joking; ‘Wilkie’ was made a director of this likeable family equipe.

The Bugatti OC has a new edition of its of these edition of its Register of these cars. It is an impressive feat of research and compilation. Not only is the specification of each Bugatti Type, from 13 to EB110, and of the Bugatti-designed Peugeots from Type 19 Bebe to 201X, detailed, but there is incredibly complete data on owners’ cars, both here and abroad, which includes neat pictures of most of these Bugattis. There is a complete Type Numbers list with explanations, a sort-out of Bugatti cross-breeding, data on chassis plates and of Bugattis under British Reg Nos linked to Type and chassis number, this alone taking up six-and-a-half of the large pages. Formidable! Those interested, apply to the BOC, secretary Sue Ward. I am so glad the Foreword is by Barry Eaglesfield because his Bugatti Book of 1954, which ran to four editions, started this valuable sort of thing and is still a bible today.
