FUELLING CONTROVERSY?
As an engineer, I found Keith Howard’s Technofile on ‘The Bag Tank’ very interesting. In it you mentioned a few of the more memorable incidents involving fire, but one additional unfortunate one that comes to mind could not be helped by a fuel safety cell.
Henri Toivonen’s death in the Group B Lancia rally car, it seems to me, may have actually been caused by the advanced construction of the car. I have read articles saying that no one could approach the burning car because of the intense heat of the burning composite. Do such materials present an increased fire hazard? Can someone shed some light on exactly what happened to the Finn? AM, YOURS, EIC, STERUNG DUBARM; ONIARIO, CANADA
