STIRLING MOSS, SUPERSTAR

SIR,

Congratulations on the latest copy of MOTOR SPORT which, put simply, improves with every issue you must be thoroughly .delighted. With regard to your article on `Mossie’, the pleasure given by Stirling and his compatriots has been, and continues to be immeasurable all of his era, had they been living now, would be rightfully referred to as ‘superstars’

I wonder if your friend who wishes access to motoring magazines without reading about Stirling, has considered how very dull might be The Bible should Jesus not be allowed a little say within its pages?

Blasphemy is far from my intention, but the parallel (particularly after the Goodwood Revival Meeting) would appear to be somewhat apt!

When my little boy was two years old, I introduced him to Moss in the car park of what used to be the Richmond Arms Hotel. I said, “little Garth, this is how heroes used to be, they don’t make them like this anymore. Say hello to Stirling”.

Stirling simply smiled, and said what a lovely morning it was a gentleman and a superstar, though certainly not an expression he would use on his CV. Hopefully we will see you celebrating your eightieth birthday at Goodwood, sir. JAM, YOURS, Erc, SIMON JONES, LOUGHTON, ESSEX
