‘“Year One to Formula 1, a Millenium of Horsepower” or as one Formula One wag has already dubbed it “Flintstone to Ecclestone” is the theme of the Goodwood Road Racing Company’s seventh Festival of Speed celebration, which is scheduled to take place in Goodwood Park on June 18-20.

“We will start with the invention of the wheel, and work our way towards the space age technology of the current F1 car,” said GRRC prime mover the Earl of March. “Beside the hillclimb action, more flying displays and a greater variety of entertainment will appeal to the widest audience.”

No fewer than four Auto Union GP cars will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Audi, and the event will also trace the 25 year history of Reynard cars, from Formula Ford to lndycars, and focus on Le Mans.

Star cars and drivers from the United States will also be a highlight of the festival, Lord March being keen to sustain the event’s connections with the Champ Car teams.

Following the rave reviews that followed its Motor Circuit Revival meeting (our full report starts on page 76), Goodwood has confirmed that its next track event will be run on September 17-19, 1999. MP
