The subject of the National Motor Museum’s plan to have a reproduction of an historic garage at Beaulieu has cropped up again. The project came to a halt for lack of money, after the Museum’s Curator, Michael Ware, had collected many suitable items. The cost of such a replica 1930s garage was £475,000. It is now announced that the National Lottery Fund and the T&N plc have made a grant to the Museum Trust of £245,866, which must be a considerable help.

Castrol have re-introduced those useful oil can-cum-pourers that were once universal in garages that topped-up customers’ car’s with this top-quality lubricant. They look just like the former, now collectable, cans and the set of half-pint, pint and two-pint cans are available for £23.55 post free, from Castrol Classic Oils, Wakefield House, Swavesey, Cambridge, CB4 50Z. Or you can have a half-pint can — note the old measures are used — for £3.95. all prices including VAT (No vintage-car garage is immaculate without one…) This is a reminder that many of the pre-war and postwar motor-racing fraternity relied on Castrol for their racing cars and road cars.
