Daimler Century

Britain’s oldest car maker, Daimler, founded in 1896, is fast approaching its 100th year. To celebrate this the company has produced a limited edition of 200 “Daimler Century” saloons, as well as a Haynes book of the same name by Lord Montagu and David Burgess-Wise. Announcing both in Stratstone’s Daimler showrooms in Berkeley St, Mayfair, Daimler-Jaguar brought along the oldest surviving British-produced car, the 1897 twin-cylinder Daimler Phaeton. Lord Montagu, whose father was one of Daimler’s first customers, took the opportunity to announce his order for one of the new Century saloons, and Nick Scheele, Jaguar’s Chief Executive, promised that the 1897 car would be out on next year’s Brighton Run.
