VW Virility
Incredulous at first of your correspondent’s claim of a correlation between baldness and driving Golf GTIs (Letters, MOTOR SPORT, October 1987), I soon had to admit he is right.
This is a popular car in medical circles, and it took very little time to pass in mental review a representative sample which clearly showed the owners to be bald or balding to a man; female owners seem fortunately to be spared.
After a little further thought, I can indeed offer an explanation. Quite simply, those who tend to choose this car are those who tend to lose their hair, ie positive, virile, dynamic types. Cheer up, chaps, it’s not all bad being bald!
Thank you for raising these interesting medico-motoring matters.
