Sprint Specials

MOTOR SPORT readers are by and large a pretty knowledgeable bunch, so I wonder if any of them could help me with information about a couple of amateur-built sprint specials, namely Robert Waddy’s “Fuzzi” and the “de Havilland/ATN Special”?

The former is well known, so my query really relates to its present whereabouts and its history for the last 30 years or so. The last I heard about it was in about 1975 when it was being offered for sale in the Nottingham area, so it seems likely that it has indeed survived.

Thc “de Havilland/ATN” was built in the Fifties by Tom Norton and used a “deinverted” Tiger Moth motor in a pre-war MG chassis. It ran at Shelsley Walsh and Rest-and-be-Thankful in 1956, but disappeared when Norton started campaigning the ex-Ken Wharton Cooper 1000s. As it was not a very successful or historic device, it seems improbable that this one is still around — but who knows?
