Barrie Williams has emerged the winner of the generously-sponsored Renault 5 Elf Turbo Cup.

After taking the Philips Pole Premium award, Williams won in the rain at Oulton Park at 73.78 mph, from Philips and McGovern.

Cox failed to start after overturning his Renault in avoiding the spinning Moss (no relation!) in practice, but only two retired from the field of thirty. Kay won the £180 Michelin Flying Colours Award for finishing fourth from a seventeenth-place start, and Gibson the £220 Michelin Award for best turned-out Turbo.

The Championship was settled before the final round at Estoril, when “Whizzo” Williams added to his 27-point lead over Gibson by finishing third at Donington Park on September 20.
