Cyprus and Sanremo Rallies

The Cyprus Rally is not only a fine event but a critical one in the European Championship, and although Ari Vatanen (above) won the event in his Escort, Jochi Kleint just about clinched the title in his Opel (below). Barely a day later, Italy’s Sanremo Rally was won by privateer Tony Fassima in a Lancia Stratos. Two Fiats were next, followed by Britain’s Tony Pond in one of those fine little cars from Coventry, a Talbot Sunbeam Lotus (left).
