II.II.11tNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
WATKINS GLEN SCENES.—Our photo miscellany captures some of the most exciting moments of the US Grand Prix. Leading them all home was Francois Cevert in Tyrrell No. 9. Jacky Ickx gave great chase in the 1970 Ferrari (No. 32) and is followed by Stewart, Regazzoni and Hu[me. A rear view shows Peterson’s STP March attempting to find a way ahead of Stewart’s understeering Tyrrell. Two of the best performances came from Mike Hailwood’s Surtees TS9 (No. 20) and Howden Ganley’s BR M P160, who are pictured in close company. David Hobbs deputised for Mark Donohue in the Penske McLaren (No. 31) and has Emerson Fittipaldi’s Lotus on his tail, as does Jo Siffert who brought the Yardley-BRM (No. 14) to an excellent second place. Denis Hulme (McLaren No. 7) provided a strong challenge in the early stages and John Surtees (No. 18) raced the Surtees TS9 in
latest side radiator form.
