I am delighted to learn that my old friend Dudley Noble, a Vice-President of the Guild of Motoring Writers, has written his autobiography, which should be published around Christmas time. Dudley took up motoring journalism because he wanted to drive cars and travel and found this was a means of fulfilling both these ambitions, as I discovered in later decades. He was for many years with the Rover Company and then with Rootes and his book should reveal intimate details about feats such as his run in a Rovers which beat the Blue Train across France and his long-distance caravan sorties. Apart from that, Dudley Noble was one of the very early motoring writers and will no doubt have much of interest to tell us about his companions in the Craft, at the turn of the century. Among all the picture books and encyclopaedias and heavy one-make discourses, this personal record by a motoring writer and enthusiast is something to which to look forward.

Jersey Artists have had to abandon the idea of publishing another book about Brooklands, so “The History of Brooklands Motor Course”, by William Boddy, remains the standard reference work. It is still available from Grenville Publishing Co. Ltd., Standard House, Bonhill Street, London, E.C.2, at the competitive price of 50s.W. B.
