Map of the Circuits

Mobilgas have issued a map containing plans of 52 circuits — horse, not motor racing — with the best routes to them. We are intrigued to find that many of these circuits have a lap distance of over a mile, Cheltenham, where the 3¼-mile Gold Cup race is contested, being 1½ miles in circumference, while Kentpton Park’s inner course is 1¾ miles to a lap. Newcastle, we read. has a 1¾-mile circuit “with easy, banked turns ” and the oblong Stockton course is 1¾ miles to the lap. Bath is the highest course in the country, 780 ft. above sea-level, and of Ascot it is said “the paddock is superb” —  motor race organisers please copy. Lewes is “the oldest racecourse in Sussex” and has outlived 1 he speed trial mouse there, and things must be exciting at Goodwood where “all the finishes are right-handed”! This title has been won by A. E. March, for the third time. With his Coopers he gained 41 out of a possible 44 points. Runner-up is Michael Christie (38 points). C. S. Henderson taking third place with 35 points.
