Those who enjoyed building the Merit plastic D-type Jaguar will welcome the latest Merit kit, from which a realistic and large-size 1955 G.P. Mercedes-Benz can be constructed. All the necessary parts, in great detail, are included, not forgetting a supply of glue and full working instructions. By the end of the year Merit intend to add kits covering Connaught, Maserati, Ferrari and Vanwall Grand Prix cars, Cooper Mk. IX, Aston Martin DB3S, and Lotus Mk. XI. Your toyshop or sports dealer will keep you informed. The makers are J. and L. Randall Ltd. of Potters Bar. Those interested in modelling historic aeroplanes and who regret the non-availability of suitable kits will welcome the news that Merit Aircraft Kits are available for making a realistic Sopwith Camel. The wing span is 7 3/16 in. and the kit is detailed even to rotary engine, bombs and instruments. Other kits, available shortly, will cover D.H.Tiger Moth, Fokker DR2 triplane, Avro 504K, Albatross, Nieuport Scout, Fokker D7, S.E. 5A and Bristol Bulldog. Wing spans will range from 6⅜ in. to 9 in. A notable modern aircraft in the Merit range is the 11¼ in.-span Hawker Hunter.

Ulrich Model Kits of California list a metal assembly kit for making an articulated lorry to a scale of 5/32 in. = 1 ft. — W. B.

Lotus Register

Michael Henderson has taken over compilation of the Lotus Register, and would be very pleased to hear from any owner, at home or abroad, who has not submitted details of Mark, Power Unit, Registration and Chassis Number. New owners of second-hand cars are also urged to contact him at “Newlands,” Spinney Hill, Addlestone, Weybridge, Surrey.

West Essex C.C. National Hill-Climb (Oct. 13th)

Held in sunny autumn weather on the climbing and winding perimeter track of Stapleford Tawney aerodrome, this event attracted an enormous entry and even larger crowds of spectators. Everyone had two runs and the last man just beat the failing light. Fastest time was hotly contested between W. F. Moss in his beautifully maintained B-type E.R.A., Ashdown in his sports 1,100-c.c. Lotus-Climax and Greene in the Gilby Eng. Cooper-Climax, while the 1,000 Coopers of Rivers-Fletcher and Good were on the usual form. Park, with a rather scruffy Tojeiro with Aston Martin engine and plastic body, was remarkably quick and the two Mark VII Lotus of Lewis and Millbank were surprising.

Fastest Six Times:

1st: W. F. Moss (E.R.A.) 46.59 sec.

2nd: P. Ashdown (Lotus-Climax) 46.63 sec.

3rd: K. G. Greene (Cooper-Climax) 47.29 sec.

4th: A. M. Park (Tojeiro-Aston Martin) 47.77 sec.

5th: D. Parker (Cooper-Norton) 47.82 sec.

6th: A. F. Rivers-Fletcher (Cooper 1,000) 48.06 sec.
