Public Schools M.C. Point-to-Point

A rally that could be won on the road with a total mileage of about 100 miles was the ambition of the organisers who staged a Point-to-Point meeting on Sunday afternoon, October 4th.

Twenty competitors in a variety of vehicles left Keston Ponds, near Bromley, with a route card and the information that they were to reach the final control at Nutfield, Surrey, four hours and 22 minutes later. Twenty well-spaced points in Surrey, Sussex and Kent had to be visited, and it was intriguing to see the weird and wonderful routes which some competitors took. The points were shown on the route cards as simple ordnance map references, but the ambition of the organisers was realised when it was found that no competitor had succeeded in visiting all the points. The outright winner was M. J. Clarke, driving a Standard Vanguard, who gained 133 marks, and was the only competitor to arrive at the last control on time. A very close second was one of the club’s few lady members, Miss J. Held, driving a Morris Minor, who gained 131 marks.

All entrants thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and first-class organisation, coupled with fine weather, made the day.
