New Mercedes Models.

Two new Mercedes models are to be introduced for the 1927 season, with side valve engines and a normal induction system in place of the supercharging system, which has been standard on thi3 make for some time.

Both models are of the six-cylinder type, the smaller coming within the two-litre class, while the larger has a capacity of three litres.

J. G. Parry Thomas Secures World’s Records.

Driving his 7,266 cc. Leyland-Thomas on October 7th, J. G. Parry Thomas made a partially successful attack on a series of world’s records. Unfortunately, however, the driver was greatly hampered by the inadequate arrangements for revictualling his car, particularly with regard to the supply of petrol. As it was he was successful in anti( xiqg the 500 miles World’s Record at 110.04 m.p.h., thus beating the performance of the Renault. New figures were also put up for the 500 kilometres and the three hours record, 333 miles 1,477 yards being covered in the time, against a few hundred yards less in the case of the Renault.

DEATH OF MR. G. N. NORRIS WHILST SAND RACING.

It is with great regret that we have to record the death of Mr. G. N. Norris, who was very well known as a regular competitor at Brooklands and elsewhere. Mr. Norris was the victim of a fatal accident whilst competing in the recent speed trials organised by the Ulster Automobile Club at Milligan Strand, LoTidonderry.

According to the evidence of an eye-witness at the inquest, Mr. Norris swerved in the first lap of the TenMile Handicap, in order to clear a large wave that had been blown across the course by the gale. A terrific skid ensued and though this was skilfully corrected, a second skid resulted in a burst tyre, which caused the car to overturn, pinning the unfortunate driver beneath. At the time of the accident the car was travelling at over 90 m.p.h. and death was practically instantaneous.

Mr. Norris was well known for his skill in handling all types of racing vehicles, from a Morgan to the big Wolseley Viper, but for some time past had been driving for the Lea-Francis company and latterly had performed extremely well at Brooklands with this make.
