Battersea power station?
Battersea Park is the latest site under consideration for London’s round of the FIA Formula E Championship in June 2015.
The 200-acre site in the Borough of Wandsworth has been evaluated for its potential as venue for the final round of the inaugural Formula E series. London Mayor Boris Johnson is believed to support the idea in principle. The series organisers, the local council and the mayor’s office are understood to be trying to keep plans secret until the capital’s local elections conclude in May, after which they will begin the process of applying for planning permission to create a temporary venue for the June 27 fixture.
Formula E is not commenting on its plans for the London event, except to say it has identified a site and that the majority of hurdles have already been cleared.
The track layout for the inaugural Formula E race, in Beijing in September, has been finalised. The 20-turn 2.14-mile track runs around the Bird’s Nest stadium on the city’s 2008 Olympic site.
