Formula 1 cars of the 1970s and early ’80s will race at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this summer (July 6-8) following confirmation that the FTA Historic Formula One series will run a support race at the UK’s round of the World Championship.

For the first time in five years, DFV-powered Grand Prix cars will be in action at the biggest event on the British racing calendar, marking the only event in Britain this season for the HFO cars. Series organisers are hoping to have a doubleheader event, but the format is yet to be confirmed.

“We’re very lucky,” said HFO’s Dan Collins. “Bernie Ecclestone has always been a big supporter of ours and we’ve had Grand Prix support races at Bahrain, Hungary and Barcelona.”

Collins is hoping to get as many as 35 cars to the grid. “It will be a great showcase for us and a chance to show our cars to a younger F1 audience.”
