RM and Sothebys’ sale at Maranello on May 20 is packed with Ferraris, Alfas and factory memorabilia. A feature lot is a ’66 Dino 206 SP, chassis 008, which retains its original engine, ’box and bodywork. Its history includes works Ferrari and NART entries, as well as an impressive roster of aces: Bondurant, Vaccarella, Pedro Rodríguez, Ginther and Schlesser. Estimate: call 001 519 352 4575. 

2 Bonhams’ Spring auction on April 30 at the RAF Museum in Hendon boasts a 1923 Bugatti Brescia two-seater, once owned by Brooklands regular Major Austin. He bought it new in 1923 and, despite losing both legs in WWI, actively campaigned it until 1929. The car remained in his ownership until his death in 1966. The Yorkshire Car Collection acquired it some 35 years ago. It is expected to fetch £60-80,000.  Tel: 020 7468 5801.

3 Also at RM/Sothebys’ sale at Maranello, the 1962 Le Mans-winning Ferrari 330 TRI/LM. Driven to their third victory by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien, Chassis 0808 is the only 4-litre V12 Testa Rossa, the last built and the last front-engined winner at La Sarthe. Modified by the factory from an earlier TR, 0780, this Fantuzzi-bodied machine was later raced by NART, then used as a road car before being returned to its LM form by Pierre Bardinon. Not surprisingly, the estimate is ‘refer department’.

4 An early entry for Coys’ Monaco auction at Espace Fontvieille, Monaco, on May 21 is this 1954 Maserati A6GCS. First sold to a Frenchman, hence the colour, the car collected class wins in Europe and Morocco and raced in the Ulster TT. Completely restored in 2001 by Ferrari, it has recent race history. 5 The 1929 Irish Grand Prix-winning 6C 1750 Alfa Romeo, raced by Boris Ivanowski, sold for £503,000 through H&H at Cheltenham in March. This very original car spent 40 years in the Pilkington collection.
