The Ligier JS17 that won the 1981 Austrian Grand Prix in the hands of Jacques Laffite will return to racing this season after an extensive rebuild by James Watt Automotive.

Part of the collection of cars owned by Abba Kogan, the Matra V12-powered car has not raced for more than 20 years, but should join the TGP grid in the second half of this season.

“The engine is about to go on the dyno and we hope to do some testing in May,” said Watt. The main goal is to have the car ready for the GP100 celebrations at Magny Cours in mid-July.
