A former racing journalist, this 30-year-old was killed during the race morning practice session before the opening round of the IRL IndyCar Series at the Homestead oval near Miami.

Paul Dana (below) was about to start what was intended to be his first full season of IRL competition with Rahal Letterman Racing, as team-mate to Danica Patrick and 2004 Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice.

Dana, runner-up in the ’04 Infiniti Pro Series, had won sponsorship to put Ethanol branding on his Panoz-Honda, a move that led to ethanol being introduced as the new fuel in the IRL. M S
