Williams fights back for maiden victory
Philip Walker and Ted Williams shared the BRDC Historic Sportscar spoils at a windswept Silverstone. Williams turned in a gritty drive during the second race to score his maiden series win.
Williams’ Cooper Monaco broke its crown-wheel-and-pinion at the start of the first race, run on a soaking track. Undeterred, his team changed it and Williams repaid their work with a win ahead of the Lotus 15 of Walker in race two. The latter had romped home in the opening event, but Williams raced furiously to better the Lotus in the dry.
Tony Bianchi (Farrallac Allard) and Julian Bronson (Lister-Chevrolet) chased the 2-litre cars, while Rupert White and Neil Davies shared class spoils in their Lotus11s. PL
